New extended hours at Zumberge Library

Starting August 31, Zumberge Library in Allendale will be open extended hours! Zumberge will be open from noon until 2am on Sundays, and from 7:30am until 2am Monday through Wednesday.

More Computers in Zumberge

The Zumberge Library classroom (room 305) has recently been converted to have 22 fixed computers for student use. Students are welcome to use these computers whenever there is not a class in session. Come by to check out this new feature.

Zumberge Library unveils new popular reading collection

The University Libraries are happy to announce the addition of a new popular reading collection in the Zumberge Library. Located in the cafe area on the first floor, this collection consists of popular fiction and nonfiction from authors like Michael Crichton, Janet Evanovich, Anderson Cooper, David Baldacci, Sue Grafton and more. New titles will be arriving every month so check back often!

Zumberge Library Quiet Study Space

The University Libraries are happy to announce that the fourth floor of the Zumberge Library in Allendale has now been designated as quiet study space.

Group study is encouraged in spaces where you see a rolling white board. Come on in and take a look around!

Disappearing act at Steelcase

The large microfilm cabinet that dominated the Steelcase Library reference area has found a new home. The microfilm, however, didn’t move too far–it’s now located in the automated retrieval system.

Plans are in the works for more student work areas in the wide open space where the microfilm cabinet once stood. And if you miss the cabinet, its individual components were moved to the fourth floor of Zumberge.

Leisure Reading at Zumberge

Classes have you stressed? Looking for something fun to read?

Check out some of the leisure reading options at the Zumberge Library. We have a wide variety of paperbacks from authors such as Nora Roberts, James Patterson and Janet Evanovich that can be checked out.

We also have a nice selection of popular magazines available for reading ranging from US Weekly and Entertainment Weekly to Sports Illustrated and The New Yorker. Other magazines available include National Geographic, Time, U.S. News and World Report, TV Guide and Newsweek. All of these magazines, as well as the paperbacks, are located in the Cafe area of the Zumberge Library.

Writing Consultants at Zumberge

The University Libraries will be hosting Writing Consultants from the Meijer Center for Writing and Michigan Authors in the Zumberge Library on December 4, 5 and 6. The Writing Consultants will located in the reference area of the library from 7:00pm to 9:00pm on each of those days.

Fred Meijer Center for Writing Consultants will be hosted in the Zumberge Library on Oct. 2, 3, 4 (M-W) and Oct. 9 & 10 ( M, T) from 6-9 p.m. The consultants will be located in lobby area of the library.

Regular Writing Center hours will be continued as well.

Laptops Available for Checkout at University Libraries

The University Libraries makes laptops available for check-out and use in the Zumberge, Steelcase and Frey Foundation Learning Center Libraries.

Students are able to check the laptops out for two hours at a time and can use them anywhere in the library.

KCRC Moves into New Homes

Over the summer, there were major changes to the KCRC (the Kindergarten through Twelve Grade Curriculum Resource Center) that was located in AuSable Hall on the Allendale Campus. Now the GVSU Libraries has two centers located on two campus serving all students and faculty. The two centers are now called the Curriculum Materials Library – DeVos (located in Room 201A DeVos on the Pew Campus) and the Curriculum Materials Library – Zumberge, (located in Room 205 Zumberge Library on the Allendale Campus).

The collection consists of items pre-service and in-service teachers might use in their classrooms. Textbook sets, videos/DVDs, hands-on materials and puppets are just a few items found in this unique collection. There are also machines (i.e.: laminating or binding machines) teachers might use found in the CMLs.

CML hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 AM to 9 PM; Friday 10 AM to 4:30 PM; Saturday 1 PM to 5 PM; Sunday closed. The CML-DeVos telephone number is 331.7084. The CML-Zumberge telephone number is 331.2086.
