Library Palooza! – September 10th

Puzzled? Let the University Libraries help put all the pieces together. Come to the Fifth Annual Library Palooza on Thursday, September 10 and get acquainted with University Libraries’ faculty, staff, and services. There’ll be games and snacks at all three locations so stop by

Zumberge Library on the Allendale Campus from 11am – 3pm
Steelcase Library
on the Pew Campus from noon – 6pm
Frey Foundation Learning Center at the Cook-DeVos Center for Health Sciences from noon – 6pm

Don’t forget to download and solve the 2009 Library Palooza Puzzler. Correct submissions will be entered into a drawing for an iPod Shuffle!

Popular reading collection at Steelcase

A popular reading collection is now available at the Steelcase Library in the DeVos Center of the Pew campus downtown. Like its sister collection in the Café Bibliothèque area at the Zumberge Library on the Allendale campus, new titles arrive every month. You can browse the collection, or search the library’s catalog for specific titles or authors.


Please note that only current GVSU students, staff, and faculty may check out books from this collection. Books circulate for a nonrenewable four week period. For more information about the popular reading collections, contact the library at 1-3500.

RefWorks classes at Steelcase Library

RefWorks, the reference manager program, can save you lots of time and angst. This week the Steelcase Library is providing RefWorks instruction to help you get started with this powerful program. These half-hour sessions are designed to help you get started with RefWorks and provide individual assistance.

All sessions are from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. January 26, 27, 28, and 29 in the Steelcase Library instruction room. Attend one, or attend them all. Refreshments will be provided; no reservations required. For more information, call 331-7338.

Library 101: Learn how to use library resources

Stymied by the plethora of library resources available to you? Don’t know where to start?

Attending one or more of the half-hour workshops at the Steelcase Library can help you figure it all out. The first series, Library 101, will show you how to:
- navigate the library’s home page
- find books and other items in the library’s catalog
- effectively locate articles in databases
- obtain books or articles from other libraries

All sessions are from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. January 12, 13, 14, and 15. Attend one, or attend them all. Librarians will be available to answer any questions and provide individual assistance. Refreshments will be provided; no reservations required. For more information, call 331-7338.

Are you new to GVSU? Do you want to make the best use of your time when doing research?

If so, plan to attend one of the Steelcase Library’s half-hour information sessions where our knowledgeable and friendly librarians will show you how to navigate the library’s web pages, learn how to use the catalog, become aware of our hundreds of databases, and find out about interlibrary loan and document delivery.

While the sessions are designed for students new to GVSU, returning students are welcome to attend as well. They are scheduled from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. on the following dates:

Wednesday, September 24

All sessions be held in the Steelcase Library’s instruction room and refreshments will be served!

Steelcase Retrieval System Limited Access until July 14

June 26th, 2008

Due to a software upgrade, the Steelcase Library Retrieval System will not be available for public initiated requests from June 30 to July 14, 2008. Requests for an item in the Retrieval System can be made at the Steelcase Library Circulation Desk, by email through steelref@gvsu.edu or by calling (616)-331-7330 during posted library hours.

Glass Castle discussion at Steelcase

Join a discussion of this year’s GVSU Community Reading Project, The Glass Castle, at the Steelcase Library from 5 to 6 p.m. on Monday, February 18.

Other library-sponsored discussions will take place at the Zumberge Library’s Cafe Bibliotheque on Wednesday, February 13 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and Wednesday, February 20 from 5 to 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served at the Steelcase Library event.
