RefWorks workshops

Learn the ins and outs of RefWorks, the bibliography organization program, by attending one of the following Wednesday workshops:

September 19, noon to 1 p.m.
September 19, 5 to 6 p.m.
October 17, noon to 1 p.m.
October 17, 5 to 6 p.m.

All workshops will be held in the Steelcase Library instruction room. No reservation is necessary, but be sure to arrive early to ensure you have a seat for these hands-on sessions. Students, faculty, and staff are welcome to attend.

University Libraries Add Nearly Two Dozen New Resources

This summer the University Libraries have been hard at work adding or expanding nearly two dozen databases and electronic resources. Below you will find a list of the new and expanded resources.

ABI/INFORM Global

The most scholarly and comprehensive way to explore and understand business research topics. Search nearly 1,800 worldwide business periodicals for in-depth coverage of business and economic conditions, management techniques, theory, and practice of business, advertising, marketing, economics, human resources, finance, taxation, computers, and more. Expanded international coverage. Fast access to information on 60,000 + companies with business and executive profiles. Now includes The Wall Street Journal.

America’s Historical Newspapers: Collections IV and V

These two new collections expand the library’s access to these early American newspapers covering 1690 to 1922. When these two collections are completed coverage in the America’s Historical Newspapers database will include newspapers from all fifty states.

Applied Science and Technology Abstracts

“Find information in a wide variety of applied science specialties—acoustics to aeronautics, neural networks to nuclear engineering—from leading trade and industrial journals, professional and technical society journals, specialized subject periodicals, buyers’ guides, directories, and conference proceedings.” Includes abstracts and indexing of nearly 600 periodicals from as far back as 1983.

Arts and Humanities Citation Index

“Arts & Humanities Citation Index is a multidisciplinary index covering the journal literature of the arts and humanities. It fully covers 1,144 of the world’s leading arts and humanities journals, and it indexes individually selected, relevant items from over 6,800 major science and social science journals.” Coverage is from 1975 to the present.

Biography Index

“Indexes articles, books, and autobiographies for biographical subjects from antiquity to the present; includes individual and collective biographies from all fields and nationalities.” Indexing coverage is from 1984 to the present.

Business Insights

Contains strategic market reports based on independent market research for five industry groups. These in-depth reports focus on Consumer Goods (Health & Wellness, Food, Drink and Retail), Energy, Finance, Healthcare, and Technology.

Education Abstracts

Covering all areas of the Education literature, this resource contains abstracts and indexing of more than 600 journals dating back to 1983.

Essay and General Literature Index

“Cites essays and articles contained in collections of essays and other works published in the United States, Great Britain and Canada. More than 300 volumes and 20 annual or serial publications indexed annually.” General focus is on the Humanities and Social Sciences. Coverage is from 1985 to the present.

General Science Abstracts

Covering a wide variety of science topics, this database indexes and abstracts more than 300 journals. Coverage is from 1984 to the present.

IEEE Xplore

“IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEL) provides access to almost a third of the world’s current electrical engineering and computer science literature, featuring high-quality content from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.” IEL contains conference proceedings, journals, magazines, and IEEE standards. This includes access to the full text of 1.5 million documents and a backfile to 1988. Updated weekly (10,000 new documents each month).

Index to Legal Periodicals and Books

This database provides “international coverage and access to scholarly articles, symposia, jurisdictional surveys, court decisions, legislation, books, book reviews, and more.” Coverage is from 1981 to the present.

JSTOR Arts & Sciences Collection V

This newest JSTOR collection will eventually consist of at least 120 titles when it is completed. “Building on disciplines introduced in previous collections, Arts & Sciences V will include a number of important literary reviews and state historical journals. It will also widen the scope of core disciplines in the arts and humanities, such as philosophy, history, classics, religion, art and art history, and language and literature.” The addition of this collection ensures the University Libraries and its users access to the entire JSTOR collection.

LexisNexis Congressional Upgrades

Within LexisNexis Congressional you can now access the full text of Congressional hearings back to 1817 and committee prints back to 1830. You can also now access the full text of Congressional Research Service (CRS) reports back to 1916.

Oxford Scholarship Online

Access more than 1300 books from Oxford University Press in the areas of Philosophy, Religion, Political Science, and Economics and Finance.

Readers’ Guide Abstracts

Indexes and abstracts nearly 400 popular magazines covering a wide variety of topics, including current events, business, consumer affairs, education, fashion, the arts and sports. Coverage is from 1983 to the present. Users can also use Readers’ Guide Retrospective for coverage from 1890 through 1982.

Safari Technical Books

Safari Tech Books Online is a one-stop source for leading IT information. A joint venture of O’Reilly Media and The Pearson Technology Group, Safari Tech Books Online offers a valuable collection of technical reference content and computer manuals covering certification, enterprise computing, Java, Linus/Unix, Web development, Windows, XML, and more. Users can search the full text of hundreds of books simultaneously or even search for specific code fragments. The collection is continuously updated; it includes the past two years plus the current year.

Science Citation Index

The University Libraries acquired the complete backfile of this database. Coverage is now from 1900 to the present.

Social Science Citation Index

The University Libraries acquired the complete backfile of this database. Coverage is now from 1956 to the present.

Social Sciences Abstracts

Provides abstracts and indexing of more than 600 periodicals covering the social sciences. Coverage is from 1983 to the present.

TeachingBooks.net

Tests in Print

Tests in Print (TIP) serves as a comprehensive bibliography to all known commercially available tests that are currently in print in the English language. Tests in Print is directly linked to the critical, candid test reviews published in the Mental Measurements Yearbook (MMY) series. Users can research current test information from the TIP series and continue their search to all available test reviews published in the MMY series. Tests in Print is an indispensable reference for professionals in areas such as education, psychology, business, as well as those interested in the critical issues of tests and testing.”

U.S. Congressional Serial Set

“The U.S. Serial Set is a collection of U.S. Government publications compiled under directive of the Congress. It contains comprehensive and often detailed information on an extremely wide range of subjects.
